Erb, Lena G. "Nanny Erb" - 94, of Western Avenue, Parrsboro died Sunday, April 30, 2000 at South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro surrounded by her loving family. Born in Parrsboro, she was the daughter of the late Edson and Grace (Ayer) Yorke. She was a school teacher during her younger years. She later worked the family farm with her husband, George, until he passed away in 1972. She was well known throughout the Parrsboro area for her selling of strawberries at the roadside stand for her son's, and later her grandson's, strawberry operation. She was an avid card player and bingo player. She was a member of the Senior Citizen's Club and was a past member of the Rebecca Lodge. She is survived by a daughter, Frances MacLeod, and her companion, Ralph McElmon, Dartmouth; a son, Curtis, and his wife, Barbara, Parrsboro; granddaughters, Sheila MacLeod, St. George's, Manitoba; Dayle Hoeg, and her husband, Gerald, Athol; Helen Handley, and her husband, Robert, Amherst; Lynne Hebb, and her husband, Kyle, Parrsboro; grandsons, John MacLeod, and his wife, Paula, Peace River, Alberta; Neil Erb, Lower Sackville; Stephen Erb, and his wife, Terry, Parrsboro; Albert Erb, and his companion, Mary Yorke, Parrsboro; great-grandchildren, Max and Mya MacLeod, Peace River; Matthew Hoeg, and his wife, Crystal, Southampton; Adrianna Hoeg, and her companion, Chris Benoit, Halifax; Rorey Hoeg, Bethany Hoeg, both of Athol; Ryan Handley, Gillian Handley, both of Amherst; Josh, Dylan and Lauren Hebb, all of Parrsboro; Shane and Jarrett Erb, Lower Sackville; Brandon, Jordan and Taryn Erb, all of Parrsboro; great-great grandchildren, Kaitlin, Taylor and Connor, Southampton; Jenson, Halifax; several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of the Yorke sisters. She was predeceased by her husband, George; sisters, Elsie, Nita, Clara, Davida, Nell, Irma and Beatrice in infancy; a brother, Alfred. Visitation 7-9 pm Tuesday at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 pm Wednesday at the Parrsboro Baptist Church, Rev. Jeffrey White officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Parrsboro Baptist Church, South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro or to a charity of choice. |
