Aulena M. Devoe
Devoe, Aulena Mae - 87, of Western Avenue, Parrsboro, Cumberland County, and formerly of Halifax and Bras D'Or, Cape Breton died Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Boulardarie, Cape Breton, she was the eldest daughter of the late Archibald and Amelia (Thompson) Dunlap. She will be remembered for her gentle manner and as a loving wife and mother who was dedicated to her children, especially the special needs of her sons. She was a former member of United Memorial Church, Halifax and the Crowdis Unit U.C.W of that church and was a member of St. Andrew's United Church and U.C.W., Bras D'Or. She was an adherent of the Parrsboro Baptist Church since moving to Parrsboro in 1997. Surviving are daughters, Gloria (Burton) Jewers, and her husband, Don, Parrsboro with whom she resided for the past 7 years; Carol (Burton-Ozon) Carpenter, and her companion, Leonard Kolbe, Hinton, Alberta; a sister, Hannah Kaiser, Bras D'Or, Cape Breton; brother, Harry Dunlap, London, Ont.; six grandchildren, Margot Jewers, New York; Wanda Jewers, Parrsboro; Jeannie Ozon-Hoydal, Kristiansand, Norway; Debbie (Ozon) Klingbiel, Elizabeth (Ozon) Gorski, both of Hinton, Alberta; Susan (Ozon) Foss, Bonneyville, Alberta; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husbands, William S. Burton of Halifax in 1962 and J. Edgar Devoe of George's River, Cape Breton in 1993; her sons, Lorne, Edmund, Bryan, Gary, five sisters; six brothers; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Visitation 11 a.m.-12.00 noon Thursday at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parrsboro Baptist Church, Rev. Jeffrey White and Rev. Jim Bushell officiating. Committal service to take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Halifax. Memorial dontions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Research), South Cumberland Community Care Day Care Program or to a charity of choice. The family would respectfully respect a scent free environmnet at this time. |
