Susan L. Dahm-Larsen
1940 -2002

Dahm-Larsen, Susan L. - 61, of Ward's Brook, Cumberland County passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at home. Born in Montreal, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Seton and Jean (MacKinnon) Richardson. She was a graduate of West Hill High School and Mount Allison University. She was employed for 10 years with Canadair in Montreal as a computer programmer with the Systems Analysis Department. In 1977 she accepted a position with the Nova Scotia Government as a senior consultant with the Bureau of Management Consulting and Computer Communications Services. In 1980 she transferred to the Dept. of Health as Director of Health Care Statistics. Upon leaving the department in 1988, she moved to Apple River, Cumberland County, later relocating to Ward's Brook in 1991. While living in Halifax, she served as Chairperson of the Board for the Metro Area Services for the Deaf. She also served on the executive of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada as a national vice president. She was a past member of the board for Bayview Memorial Hospital in Advocate Harbour and until recently was secretary/administrator and financial officer of the FPW Fire Brigade and Community Centre in Port Greville. In 1992, the Governor General of Canada presented her with the Canada Commemorative Medal for her contributions to her community and country. Susan had many hobbies including music, photography, art, woodworking, needlework, quilting and flower gardening. She is survived by her husband, Clemm Dahm-Larsen, Ward's Brook; sons, Donald (Joann) Urquhart, Tupper Lake, Kings County; Stuart (Carla) Urquhart, Halifax; step-children, Kathryn Warren, Granville Centre; Diane Olivotto, Victoria, B.C.; Kristofer (Lynne) Larsen, Halifax; 6 step-grandchildren and former husband, J.G. (Jake) Urquhart, Fall River. She was predeceased by a son, Brian Urquhart in infancy. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday (February 2, 2002) at the Port Greville United Church, Rev. Jean Simms-Mills officiating. Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada or to a charity of choice.
