Albert Arthur Adams
Adams, Albert Arthur - 69, of Lower Five
Islands, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia and formerly of Taunton,
Massachusetts, died Thursday, December 5, 2002 at his home after a brief
illness. Born in Lower Five Islands on February 1, 1933, he was the son of
the late James Garfield and Cora Electa (Webb) Adams. After working as a
clam digger and logger, he and his new bride moved to Toronto in 1953 where
he worked as a machinist for a few years. In 1963, the growing young family
emigrated to Taunton, Massachusetts where Albert began working as a
carpenter, a trade he had learned from his father, a ship builder in Nova
Scotia. He started a family business, A.A. Adams & Sons specializing in
residential construction and remodeling. His work can be seen in various
locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island including Taunton, Nantucket,
Martha’s Vineyard, Newton, Wellesley, Brookline, Jamestown and Newport. He
enjoyed a wide range of interests, such as hunting, fishing, scuba diving,
and playing bagpipes. His interest in learning about his Scottish roots
(Clan Gordon) led him to take up the bagpipes as an adult. He marched in
parades with Old Scotia Pipes and Drums. He was a founding member of the
Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Parish in East Taunton, MA. Many people
from the Taunton area will remember him for his hospitality and eagerness to
share his Nova Scotia home. He will be remembered most for his warmth, his
love for his family and his home in Lower Five Islands. He is survived by
his wife, the former Clare A. Cruickshank; daughters, Anna Boivin of
Tiverton, RI; Clare Elaine, and her husband, Ron Levesque of Cumberland, RI;
Nancy and her husband Rick Almeida of Taunton; sons, Albert A. Adams and his
wife Karen of Ashland, MA; Robert B. Adams and his wife Lisa of Taunton;
sisters, Annie Cruickshank of Moose River; Eva and her husband Diarmuid Swan

He will be remembered as “Papa” by his eleven grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by
sisters, Mary, Ethel, and Julia and brothers Frank, Banford, Robert, Charles
and Fraser. Visitation will be held 1-9 p.m. at his home in Lower Five
Islands on Sunday December 8. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday,
