MELDRUM, J. Cletus - 83, New Canaan, Cumberland Co., passed away Friday, January 24, 2003, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in New Canaan, he was a son of the late Stephen and Clarice (Rector) Meldrum. He was a retired lumberman having worked for C.E. Harrison and Son Ltd. for 40 years. He was a member of the Southampton Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Thora Smith; daughter, Shirley Benjamin (Reid), Fall River; son, Murray (Wendy), Southampton; grandchildren, Kimberley MacLeod, Grand Lake; Crystal Leblanc, Lower Sackville; Eileen Meldrum, Halifax; Rachael Meldrum, New Glasgow; Murray Meldrum, Southampton; great-granddaughter, Raylea MacLeod. He was predeceased by brothers, Hedley, Medley, Claude. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Ralph Morris officiating. Burial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to New Canaan Cemetery.
