Gilbert, J. Maxwell “Max” – 88, of Lakelands, Cumberland County passed away Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Lakelands, he was the son of the late George Thompson “Thomp” and Evelyn (Higgs) Gilbert. He was employed as a lumberman, truck driver and a construction worker for most of his life. He enjoyed growing blueberries, trapping, cutting wood and spending time with his children and later his grandchildren. He was an avid wrestling fan and loved playing cards. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Ethel Gilbert; sons, Ronald (Louise), Lakelands; Brad (Norma), Oakwood, Ont.; daughters, Audrey Heward (Lorne), North Bay, Ont.; Carolyn O’Hearn (Fred), Five Islands; Diane Gilbert, Toronto; Barbara Gilbert, Parrsboro; Bernice Fulton (Earl), Parrsboro; Jo Anne Gilbert, Kamloops, B.C.; Cheryl Johnson (Mike), Lakelands; sister in law, Hazel Gilbert, Lakelands; 30 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lillian; brothers, Olin and Arthur; great grandchild, Justin Scott. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, Rev. Donna Lovelace officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre Foundation, Upper Nappan.
