Margaret I. McMeekin
McMeekin, Margaret I. – 90, of Halifax and formerly of Parrsboro passed away
Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth. Born in Staten Island, New
York, she was the daughter of the late James and Ida (Bopp) MacDougall. She
spent her early years in Musquodoboit Harbour and Advocate Harbour. At the age
of 16, she commenced teaching school at Yarmouth Mountain, Cumberland County.
The following year, she taught school in Brookville, Cumberland County.
Thereafter, she graduated from Normal College in Truro and subsequently taught
in numerous schools throughout Cumberland, Colchester and Halifax Counties for
some 34 years. She dedicated her life to her family, her pupils and communities.
She was a volunteer for mental health at hospitals and was a strong supporter of
the Canadian Red Cross. She was a former member of Pythian Sisters, Port
Greville and Trinity United Church, Parrsboro. She is survived by her daughter,
Ruth Ardley, Dartmouth; sons, David (Anne), Truro; Donald, Duncan (Crystal),
Parrsboro; granddaughters, Kim, Krista, Jessica and Candice Lake; Cassandra
Morris; grandsons, Peter, Andrew, John and Steven Ardley; Jake, Josh and Greg
Lake; 2 great grandchildren, Haley Ardley and Seth Lake. She was predeceased by
her first husband, Donald Lake; second husband, David McMeekin; a sister, Ruth;
a brother, James. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith’s Funeral Home,
Parrsboro, Rev. Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial in the Advocate Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or to a charity of
choice. |
