MacKenzie, Jessie R. – 80, of Smith Avenue, Parrsboro and formerly of Ward’s Brook passed away peacefully Monday, October 8, 2007 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Port Greville, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Emily (Corbin) McCully. She was a graduate from the School of Nursing in Amherst. Following her graduation, she nursed in Amherst, Kentville, Pictou, Parrsboro and Advocate Harbour retiring in 1992. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by daughters, Margo Gilbert (Clifford), New Canaan; Janie Pettigrew (Angus), Parrsboro; a sister, Madeleine McNeil, Dartmouth; a brother, Gerald, Parrsboro; 5 grandchildren, Paul, Joey, Jeremy and Patricia Gilbert; Laura Pettigrew; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel; brothers, Lloyd, Kenneth, Hector, Archie. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday (October 11, 2007) at Grace United Church, Port Greville, Rev. Sandra Riddell officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to South Cumberland Community Care Centre Foundation (Palliative Care) or to a charity of choice.
