Mabel Lillian Rowlings ROWLINGS, Mabel Lillian - 89, Parrsboro, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2008, surrounded by her family. Born in Fox River, she was a daughter of the late John and Georgia (Murray) Winter. Mabel spent most of her adult life in Toronto, Ont., and worked full-time for over 30 years in the offices of several large corporations. However, her lifelong focus was her family, and she was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all. She was a quiet, good-hearted, and generous woman. Mabel was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Harry Winfred Rowlings (Musquodoboit Harbour), and all seven of her siblings, Aubrey Winter, Ryerson (Myrtle) Winter, Emma Winter, Madge (Don) Yorke, Irene (Blair) McCabe, Minnie (Edgar) Parker, and Thornton (Grace) Winter. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Wykes, North Vancouver, B.C.; Karen (David) Roberts, Parrsboro; Judy (Michael) Gee, St. Joseph Island, Ont.; grandchildren, Heather (Don) Kimmie, Kimberly (Ritch Whyman) Kerridge, Michael Maindonald, Mark (Lisa) Wykes, Christena Maindonald and Stephanie (Marc Milliard) Kerridge; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Colson Wykes, Braydon and Devon Kimmie, and Luc Milliard, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. Cremation will take place, followed at a later date by a private burial service in Grace United Church Cemetery in Port Greville. Some very special family members and friends enhanced the last part of Mabel's life with their visits and thoughtfulness, including Georgia and Henry Hingley, Fox River; Patricia and Randy Mosher, Hantsport; John and Cathy McCabe, Halifax; Joe-Ann Keating, Parrsboro, and Keith Odlin, Parrsboro. Special thanks are also extended to Beverly Skidmore, Jeannie Allen, and the nurses and personal caregivers at the Continuing Care Branch of the Nova Scotia Department of Health, especially Heather Dyble, Lisa Mills, and Linda Brown, who contributed greatly to Mabel's comfort during the last part of her life and who made it possible for Mabel to have her wish to remain in her own home to the very end of her life. Donations in memory of Mabel may be made to Palliative Care of South Cumberland Community Care Centre Foundation.
