Arley W. Canning
CANNING, ARLEY W. - 79, of Beaverdam Road, Parrsboro passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the family home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Diligent River, he was the only son of the late Morton and Georgena (Salter) Canning. During his younger years, Arley worked for Ken Atkinson doing carpentry. He also travelled for work in “the valley” during apple picking season. During his later years, he operated his own business, Arley Canning Construction Ltd. As the business grew, he employed many “guys” from the community. Arley was well known throughout Cumberland County for his reputation in the concrete foundation business. His generosity extended to various community projects such as the local public library, the Lions Arena and the Parrsboro Firehall. Arley retired in 1994 at which time he devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren, before his diagnosis with Parkinson’s Disease. He approached each challenge of his disability with determination. Arley will be greatly missed as he was an inspiration to all for even the most minor of everyday challenges and was a light at the end of every dark day. He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia ‘Patsy’ Canning; daughters, Arlene Canning (Kevin); Cindy Yorke (Chester); sons, David Johnson (Sherry), all of Parrsboro; Mike Johnson (Cheryl), Lakelands; 9 grandchildren, Stephen, Ryan and Megan Johnson; David, Trevor and Jessica Johnson; Christopher Logan; Kayla and Kristen Yorke.
