MCBURNIE, Chester A. — 82 years, of Five Islands, Colchester Co., passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Five Islands, he was the youngest son of the late Austin and Edna (Alcorn) McBurnie. As a very young man, he started out in the lumber camps, and then came home to work the family farm. He spent almost all of his life in Five Islands, surrounded by close family and friends, but people knew him far and wide from his early days of peddling meat door-to-door. Throughout his life he was well-known for his love of telling, and hearing, a good joke. He started out with very little, but through hard work and determination, he continually demonstrated his great love and care for his family. He was proud to have provided a university education for all three of his children. He is survived by his wife, with whom he shared a strong, loving bond and friendship for over 50 years, the former Marilyn Webb; daughters, Edna Pettipas (Marshall), Afton; Jean Marsh (Glen), Five Islands; son, Addison, Toronto, Ont.; special granddaughters, Katlyn Pettipas and Emily Marsh; sisters, Beulah Davis, Five Islands; Evelyn Davis, Lower Five Islands; Helen Yorke (Ted Wilson), Lower Five Islands; sisters-in-law, Ruth McBurnie and Betty McBurnie; lifelong friend, Emerson (Linda) Dow; special nephew, Truman (Myrna) McBurnie; aunt, Madeliene Fulton; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, Cecil and Everett. The family is fulfilling Chester's final wishes for no viewing or service. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
