Katrina graduated from Normal College in Truro in 1939 and taught elementary school for 34 years starting in Apple River. She later taught in River Hebert, Five Islands and Economy ending her career in Bass River in 1978. Next to her family and friends, Katrina’s faith was a very important aspect of her life. She was a member of Peniel United Church, Five Islands and taught Sunday School for many years. She also enjoyed her Bible Study Group and upon coming to Bedford she worshipped with the Wesleyan Church at the Berkeley in Bedford. She was a member of the United Church Women, Five Islands, serving as President and in many other capacities over the years. She was also a member of the local chapter of the Women’s Institute serving in many capacities there as well. Katrina will be well remembered by all her friends and family as a wonderful cook. Her tea biscuits and cinnamon buns were legendary and no family get together was complete without them. Katrina was an avid reader and solved the Cryptoquote and Target Word daily. She loved playing 45’s with the Senior’s Group in Five Islands and then with her new friends at the Berkeley in Bedford. She made many special friends at The Berkeley which made her transition to the Bedford community a very enjoyable one. We wish to especially thank the caring nurses and staff at the Berkley, as well as the wonderful doctors and nurses in Emergency at the Cobequid Center, Halifax Infirmary Site; as well, the compassionate staff of the 8.2 unit, especially resident Andrew Wing. She received excellent care and everyone ensured her stay there was a comfortable one. In lieu of visitation, family and friends are invited to drop in for a visit on Saturday [October 23, 2010] between 2 - 4 p.m. at 97 Peregrine Crescent, Bedford.
