1946 - 2012

KEATING, JOANNE M. – 65, of Parrsboro, and formerly of Halifax passed away Friday [May 4, 2012] at South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Blanche (Travis) Keating. Joanne was a CNA and Operating Room Technician for many years having worked in hospitals at Antigonish, Halifax and Terrace, B.C. Upon her return to Nova Scotia, Joanne graduated with her BA and BEd from Mount Saint Vincent University. She taught in the Halifax school system for 19 years before retiring. She is survived by her brother, Pat Keating (Annette), Halifax; a niece, Julie Keating, Ottawa, cousins Elizabeth Brownlow, Alleyene Murphy and Anne Marie Murphy. She also leaves behind her Parrsboro and Halifax friends with whom she shared many special moments during her lifetime. A special thanks to those friends who cared for her during her final weeks. Not to be forgotten was the wonderful care and professionalism shown to Joanne at both the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton and the South Cumberland Community Care Centre in Parrsboro. Joanne was well known and respected for her love of animals. In passing she was looking forward to joining Willow, Pearl, Aiden, and Miss Violet in a more peaceful place. She will be waiting for Harriett, Kiko, Tilley and many other pets she has left behind. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday [May 8, 2012] at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church, Parrsboro, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday [May 9, 2012] in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Middle Sackville. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
