Karen Elizabeth Ruth Allen
It is with deeply saddened hearts that we, the family, would like to pass on that Karen Allen of Parrsboro lost her long, difficult and courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Cancer) on August 2, 2013 surrounded by her immediate family. Karen was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland to Ron and Effie Penney on December 5, 1961. Her life moved her from Newfoundland to Toronto, Ontario where she partially ran a towing business for many years. Karen demonstrated her incredible resolve and determination by later completing a Business Degree from York University, while being a young mother of two. Life later brought Karen back to Nova Scotia where she managed and owned a gas station in Brule. She also spent time with the Christmas Index in Truro, as well as worked for the Child Poverty Network. The heavy workload leant her to prioritize staying at home and raising her children. Karen devoted herself to her children wholeheartedly and always had the motto “children can never have enough people to love them” to which she was truly committed. Karen’s Harley Davidson was one of her many accomplishments which she thoroughly enjoyed, especially cruising with her husband Mitchell. However the real joys in her life came with her grandchildren, Kaden and Hailyn, which she could never get enough of. She was a very special “Nana” to both and showed true love to each grandchild every day since both were born, never forgetting her blessings even in the hardest of times. Karen was a very giving person and always treated everyone with dignity and respect. She touched everyone she met and left them all with a profound sense of something special in having met her. Karen devoted her whole life to helping those around her and helped so many individuals achieve what might have been missed opportunities had it not been for her influence. Karen leaves behind her devoted husband, Mitchell, her boys Domenic (wife Nicole), Daniel (fiancé Ally), Jeremy (wife April and grandson Kaden), and Joshua as well as daughter Leah (husband Chris and granddaughter Hailyn). Siblings, Brother Austin (wife Flo niece and nephew Emily and Ralph), Sisters Madonna (husband Phillip and daughters Jessica and Rebecca and nieces Aurora and Sophie), Sister Rosalie (husband Brian and nephews and niece Victor, Mitchell, Mikaela, Mackenzie), Sister Bernadette (nieces Melanie and Tammy). Her Father Ron Penney (friend Shirley). Karen was predeceased by her mother Effie and step mother Mary. Everyone that knew and met Karen is left with a void for the rest of their lives that will never be truly filled. We are all blessed to have had her touch our lives in many ways. May she rest in peace. As per her wishes, there will be no formal services held. A gathering of immediate family will be held at a later date. Send your Online Condolences direct to family. |
