William J. Connors
Connors, William J. “Bill” – 82, of Parrsboro passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Bernard and Kathleen (Warren) Connors. Bill was a self-employed contractor, specializing in carpet and cushion floor installation, as well as interior painting. Upon his retirement to the Parrsboro area, he was a most active volunteer sharing his expertise and hard work to numerous organizations. Bill was recognized with the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal for his volunteerism in the community. He was a long serving member of the Knights of Columbus, Minas Masonic Lodge No. 67, Parrsboro and was Past President of Legion Branch No. 45, Parrsboro. He is survived by his wife, Florence (Beaton) (Downs) Connors; a daughter, Shelly Hodgson (Scott), Porters Lake; a step-daughter, Louise Downs, Quebec; step-sons, Ronald Downs (Maureen), Enfield; Philip Downs (Robin), Lantz; sisters, Joan Stewart, Dartmouth; Judy Roberts (David), Two Islands; grandchildren, Laura Hodgson; Janna and Luke Connors; a great grandchild; 6 step-grandchildren, Lindsay and Michelle Downs, Enfield; Amelia and Myra Szczepanski, Quebec; Dylan and Evan Downs, Lantz. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie Milton; a son, David; brothers, Frank, Charles; a granddaughter, Sarah Jane. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where a Masonic and Legion Tribute Service will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers to follow at 7:45 p.m. Funeral service 11 am on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church, Parrsboro, Deacon Howie Goldstein officiating. Reception to follow at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church Hall. Memorial donations may be made to St. Brigid’s Church, Parrsboro. |
