Irene M. MacGillivary
MacGillivary, Irene M. – 65, of Spencer’s Island passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre (CEHHC), Truro. Born in Advocate Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Edith (Wasson) Berry. Irene was very active in her community and a committed supporter and volunteer. She was a founding member of the Advocate School Hot Lunch Program and a continued supporter throughout the years. She was a member of the Advocate and District Home and School Association, the Spencer’s Island Community Hall Association, the Advocate District Volunteer Firemen Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Advocate Baptist Church and the Bayview Memorial Health Foundation. Irene was proud of her work over the many years in the effort to keep the Advocate District School in her community. Her kindness and compassion for others was evident in her everyday life. She is survived by her husband, Edgar; daughter, Angela MacGillivary (Kevin Swan), Enfield; sons, Dwayne (Kim), and their children, Jordan and Jenna, Spencer’s Island; Matthew (Joanna) and their children, Mahayla and Isaac, Great Village; daughter, Sandra Benjamin (Barton), and their children, Courtney and Curtis, Spencer’s Island; brothers, Ronald (Sharon), Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.; Robert (Marchel Strong), East Advocate; sisters-in-law, Brenda McLellan (William), Diligent River; Gloria Lewis, Lower Five Islands; Marlene Rector (Sherrard), Hopewell Cape, N.B.; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Lawrence and Melba MacGillivary; sister-in-law, Audrey (Stronge); brother-in-law, Richard Lewis. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Spencer’s Island Union Church, where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, Rev. Dr. Phyllis Nesbitt officiating. Burial in the Allenville Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Advocate Fire Hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Spencer’s Island Union Church.
