Doris G. Brown
Brown, Doris G. – Age 93, of Parrsboro passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro surrounded by family. Born in Waterville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Avard and Grace (Benson) Lee. Doris spent her youth on Robert’s Island, Yarmouth County, where she would meet her future husband, Dave Brown at a night out at the county fair. Before long she was taking a train to Parrsboro, Dave’s hometown, where she would make her home for the next 72 years. Throughout these years, Doris was content as a homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She was known as “Nanny Brown” to everyone who knew her. She was an avid knitter, and it is safe to say that no one left her home without a pair of mittens. She enjoyed life to the fullest, and was fortunate enough to travel seeing many places both near and far. She always had a kind word and hug for everyone she met. She especially treasured her friendships with Mamie (Canning), Muriel “Hoople” (McCully), Daisy (Guilderson), Bernice (Forbes), Hazel (Hebert) of Parrsboro, and the Rissesco family. As well, Lou Babineau and Larry Wood for just being great neighbors throughout the years. She is survived by daughters, Irene MacKinnon (Bruce), Cole Harbour; Linda Yorke (Jim), New Prospect; Brenda Pickard (Jim), Parrsboro; son, James “Jimmy” (Lisa), Porters Lake; sister, Grace Lee, Yarmouth; sister-in-law, Helen Lee, Newmarket, Ont.; brother-in-law, George Brown (Lynn), Manitoba; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, David in 2003; a sister, Eunice; brothers, Francis, Richard, Donald and Avard. Visitation will be held 6-8 pm on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Parrsboro Baptist Church, where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 24, 2016, Rev. Emmanuel Mutale and Pastor Christina McCallum officiating. Burial in the Parrsboro Baptist Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Parrsboro Baptist Church. |
