Hazel P. Hebert

Hebert, Hazel Pauline - 94, of Parrsboro passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Bayview Memorial Health Centre, Advocate Harbour surrounded by her daughters. Born in River Hebert on Christmas Day, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Evangeline( Richard) Wood. Growing up, Hazel loved to play cards, dance, play ball, skate on any frozen surface she could find, go coasting, play house and make paper cutouts. Finishing her schooling, Hazel moved to Sackville, N.B. working as a receptionist and housekeeper for Dr. Barnhill and his wife. Following her marriage in 1944 to Lloyd Hebert, Hazel became a homemaker. While living with Lloyd's parents, they worked together tirelessly to construct their first home in Joggins. With their family growing, Lloyd and Hazel moved to Amherst and eventually settled in Parrsboro to establish their new business...Hebert's Fina Station and Auto Body Repair. Working once again side by side, they built a strong reputation and business that showed a very strong work ethic. Hazel could pump gas, change oil and tires, sand vehicles, tape off cars and prepare them for painting. As their family grew to 6, Hazel not only managed her home and family but she had a variety of jobs to support her family and help their successful business - cleaned houses for various families in the area, cooked at the Fireside restaurant, took ceramic courses and  eventually established formal ceramic classes which she offered to hundreds of adults over the years in the basement of her home. As well, she worked at  local elections, established and participated in area bazaars, and local craft shows as a vendor. Hazel was a very competitive strawberry and blueberry picker and enjoyed an ongoing rivalry with other neighbourhood pickers and she made sure her children worked right along side her in the berry field. A life long member of St. Brigid's Church, she was a valued member of the CWL and a member of the local Home and School Association and the Cumberland Craft organization. Hazel's greatest joy was her family and at any opportunity she loved to host them at their family home with great food, having lots of fun and making memories. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Morris (Dale), Norma Collinson (Steven), Pauline Gilbert (Skip), all of Parrsboro; Angela Hebert (Greg Rennehan), Eastern Passage; grandchildren  Blair, Corey, Scott, April, Patrick, Paul, Matthew, Michelle; great-grandchildren Kendra, Kiara, Eden, Mason, Emma, Nathan, Olive; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd in 1985, children Robert( 1992) and Brenda(2002) and two children in infancy; sister Geneva, brother Don and George. A celebration of Hazel's life will be held on Monday July 30, 2018  at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid's Catholic Church, Parrsboro, Father Craig Christenson officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
