Marion A. Kyle
1931- 2023

Marion A. Kyle

Kyle, Marion A. - Age 91, of Lakelands passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Amherst, she was the daughter of the late Earle and Marjorie (Dickinson) Hanna. In her early years she attended a one room schoolhouse in Lakelands; later Edgehill School in Windsor, Queen Elizabeth High and the Nova Scotia College of Art, both of Halifax. She also was a lifetime member of Trinity United Church, Parrsboro.

Marion was grateful to have been born in this part of the world, loving both her ancestral home where she spent most of her life and her community of Lakelands, so much so she compiled a thorough history of its early settlers.

Marion loved her family above all else, devoting her life to them.  As a caregiver, she provided home care to her elderly mother whom she looked after during the last few years of her life, then later caring for her husband with the help of her family, as he struggled for ten difficult years with Alzheimer’s disease.

Marion was an amateur genealogist, helping many in the U.S. and Canada trace their roots to this area of Nova Scotia, kindly donating her many hours and years of work uncovering countless family histories to the Ottawa House Museum, so that others would have access to such precious information long after she was gone.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William and a brother, Lawrence ‘Laurie’. She is survived by daughters, Jocelyn MacDonald, Janet Brown (Dana), a son, William Kyle (Lori), a granddaughter, Katharine MacDonald, sister-in-law, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Hanna; special nephews, Stephen (Nancy), Michael (Debbie), Jeffrey (Lynn),  as well as many more nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Marion’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral services held. A private family committal will be held in the Parrsboro United Cemetery at a later date, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband who passed in 2011.

Donations may be made in Marion’s memory to the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter Amherst, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission Halifax, or by any random act of kindness.

Our family would also like to express their gratitude to the staff of the  Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Amherst for their kindness and care of their mother.

The Watcher

She always leaned to watch for us,
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window,
In summer by the gate.

And though we mocked her tenderly,
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem more safe
Because she waited there.

Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget!
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.

Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late -
Watching from Heaven's window,
Leaning from Heaven's gate.
