Lorne J. Smith
Smith, Lorne J. – 94, of Southampton, Cumberland County
died Sunday, November 30, 1997 at Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born
in South Athol, Cumberland County, he was the son of the late Johnson and Sarah
(Smith) Smith. He was a retired farmer and lumberman. He was a member of the
Southampton United Church, where he was an Honorary Elder.
He was a member of the Knights of
Pythias #54, Southampton where he was named Knight of the Year in 1997. He was a
recipient of the Degree of the Golden Spur in 1989 by the Grand Lodge of the
Maritime Provinces. He is survived by his wife, the former Millie Canning; three
daughters, Betty (Mrs. Cecil Adams), Southampton; Evelyn (Mrs. Kenneth MacKay),
Guelph; Karen (Mrs. David Dickinson), West Brook; seven sons, Earl and wife,
Barbara, Grande Prairie; Johnson, and wife Shirley, Ottawa; Fred and wife,
Jessie, Lorne C., all of Southampton; Richard and wife, Bev, Kitscoty; Eric and
wife, Lucille, Sweaburg; Leslie, and wife, Joy, Granville Ferry; 27
grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by five sisters, Viola,
Ursula, Grace, Eunice, Florence; two brothers, Owen, Russell. Visitation 2-4,
7-9 pm Tuesday at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro where a Knights of Pythias
service was held 7 pm Tuesday; funeral 2 pm Wednesday at the Southampton United
Church, Rev. Helen Waddell officiating. Burial in the Southampton Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southampton United
Church, the IWK- Grace Children’s Hospital or charity of choice.
